Invermere Fire - Rescue (IFR)

Experience and calls we have responded to have taught us there are many things that can be dangerous in and around the home. Here are some of the things to be aware of:

 At least once yearly, replace the battery in your smoke detector and test its operation. Also check your carbon monoxide detector. The proper placement of this life saving equipment can provide time for your family to escape.
 Observe Fire Smart principles by keeping your yard clear of debris. Keep roof and eaves trough clear of leaves and branches. The reduction of ladder fuels will greatly assist your local fire department in suppression of fire in and around your home.
 Keep wood piles properly stacked and away from the house.
 Have your street address clearly visible and easily seen from the road in all light conditions. Not only will that assist in locating your house, it will also help to locate your neighbors if they don’t have their address visible.
 Have emergency telephone numbers and your address posted by your telephone. When seconds count don’t rely on your memory.
 When an emergency situation happens, call your emergency services from a safe location.
 Develop and maintain emergency exit plans and practice them with your children. In an emergency, children will do as they have learned.
 Arrange to bring your children to the fire hall to see the gear and equipment so if an emergency happens they are familiar with it and not afraid of it.
 Maintain an emergency preparedness kit and be familiar with your local emergency plans.

As a volunteer based department we rely on donations and community support. As a token of our appreciation, we will have our sponsors names here and links to their businesses.
